Supporting the Development of an Urban-Planning Consensus-Building Application for Keio University's SFC Research Institute

An application that draws on the concepts of liquid democracy and blockchain to support next-generation consensus building capable of reflecting the views of the silent majority

In March 2022, mign Inc. (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Masahiro Taima; pronounced “mine”) supported the development of an urban-planning consensus-building application used by the Yasushi Ikeda Laboratory at Keio University SFC. The lab is exploring next-generation approaches to consensus building that capture the views of the silent majority and reflect citizens’ opinions in finer detail.

Unlike conventional consensus-building models such as direct democracy (“Direct” in the figure, where individuals cast their own votes) and representative democracy (“Representative” in the figure, where voting is entrusted to representatives chosen through elections), liquid democracy (“Liquid” in the figure) allows individuals to partially delegate their votes to others.​
