How mign was founded

Childhood as the original landscape

My mother was a painter, and I was interested in design from a young age.

When I was in elementary school, I saw a TV program featuring the work of architect Kisho Kurokawa, and I felt that I wanted to be involved in the creation of large scale, beautiful things all over the world.

I remember writing in my elementary school graduation book that I wanted to be an architect in the future (I was too embarrassed to tell anyone, but my first choice at the time was to be a professional baseball player).

My Student Years Studying Architecture, Urban Design, and Civil Engineering

After graduating from high school, I wanted to enter the architecture department of an art university, but I could not pass the entrance exam and ended up becoming a ronin (a student who lacked all the skills in drawing and model making that I now think of).

In the end, I was not able to enter art college, but studied civil engineering for my undergraduate degree, urban planning for my graduate degree, and architecture at a double-school vocational school.

I wanted to work in the same way as the great masters of the past, as a university professor and the head of an architectural firm, and so I entered a doctoral program.

A sense of emptiness that led me to start my own business

My academic research at graduate school was the catalyst for starting my own business.

In the master's and doctoral programs, research results in the form of papers and conference presentations were required in order to obtain a degree, and being a worrier, I put all my energy into achieving research results several times faster than the average student.

As a result, I published more than 10 reviewed papers and more than 30 international conference papers and other research results by the end of the doctoral program.

Even while in the master's program, I had papers published in well-known international journals in the field of construction, received paper awards from the Urban Planning Association and the Geographical Information Society, and was awarded a doctoral degree from the Graduate School of Engineering as vice-president.

However, I was not satisfied at all and always felt a sense of emptiness.

This was because my research results were evaluated only by specialists in a narrow field, and I did not feel that they were of any use to anyone.

In the second year of the master's course, I began to have doubts about my research activities and tried to find a way to contribute to society by changing the content of my research in various ways through trial and error.

I felt that my status as a researcher at a university imposed various restrictions and made it difficult for me to be genuinely involved in helping others and improving society, which is what prompted me to start my own business.

The problem is that the evaluation (KPI) of researchers at Japanese universities generally depends on the number and quality of papers, and personnel decisions are made by researchers within the universities, which makes academic research a little off the vector of contributing to society (≒ improving GDP).

As a person who is not bound by these restrictions, I founded Mign Inc. because I genuinely want to work on improving society.

From the time I was in graduate school until I retired from my previous position as an assistant professor at a university after completing my doctoral program, I had been preparing for this while launching several businesses on a test basis.

Goals as an organization

In founding mign, I have two goals: one for the near future and one for the far future.

My goals for the near future are to introduce cutting-edge technology on a global scale in collaboration with the academic world, focusing on the fields of architecture and civil engineering, which I have long studied and loved, and to create an organization that can reproduce this on a global scale without me (the manager) doing anything, and that can continue to grow while avoiding risk autonomously (an organization with a near infinite PER).

My goals for the future are to enrich the lives of people around the world and to improve our society, which has supported me since I was a child despite the fact that my parents are seriously ill and unable to work, and has given me the opportunity to study, despite my selfishness.

Although other companies are said to be competitors for the market, I believe that we are a team that makes society better.

Since the divergence of our species from the chimpanzees 8 million years ago, human life has become increasingly affluent through the cooperation and efficiency of many people.

Not only is the prey we once hunted and caught with great effort now sold in supermarkets in processed, easy-to-eat form, but the elderly and sick can now live without having to work through social security.

In the future, we should be getting closer to a society where people can live without working most of the time. I would like to contribute to a society without starvation and war, while working hard with our competitors and everyone else in the industry.

In closing

One of the meanings of mign is Minecraft.

I was very moved when I saw small children with no expertise in the field enjoying building houses and towns.

I would like to grow together with the members who create the service and the users of the service, feeling the longing and enjoyment of building houses and towns that I felt when I was a child.

I still have a lot to learn and I am still a novice, but I would be happy if you could support me.
